Tottenham Hotspur reportedly had bids turned down for Manchester United pair Juan Mata and Anthony Martial during the summer.
Both players have been in and out of the starting XI at United, while the arrival of former Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez in January has added competition in the wide positions of Mourinho's squad.
Spurs were the only Premier League side to not buy a single player in the transfer window, but the Manchester Evening News claims that chairman Daniel Levy had bids rejected for Mata and Martial.
The report adds that a potential deal for Martial collapsed due to the high transfer fee that the Red Devils were asking for.
Meanwhile, Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld was rumoured to be heading in the other direction throughout the summer, but the move never materialised.
