Report: Manchester United lose battle to keep David de Gea

A report claims that Manchester United have lost out to Real Madrid in their bid to keep hold of goalkeeper David de Gea.

David de Gea has reportedly decided to leave Manchester United this summer.

In recent months the goalkeeper has been strongly linked with a move back to his native Spain and Real Madrid.

As far as United are concerned, they are keen to keep hold of the 24-year-old, with manager Louis van Gaal having confirmed that he has been offered a new and improved contract to remain at Old Trafford.

However, according to The Sun, the lure of plying his trade at the Bernabeu from the start of next season has proven to be too strong for De Gea, who joined United from Real's city rivals Atletico Madrid four years ago.

The report added that the Spain international has already said goodbye to some of his United teammates and the coaching staff at the club's Carrington training base.

When asked about the speculation surrounding his future yesterday, De Gea refused to commit either way, instead telling reporters: "We'll see what happens with my future. I'm on vacation now and very happy for this recognition."

To date, De Gea has made 175 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions.
