Manchester United are reportedly planning to launch a £20m move for Everton defender Seamus Coleman.
United believe that the Irishman is more likely to join in the summer, but they hope to persuade him to move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window as Louis van Gaal aims to improve his defence, which has suffered with multiple injuries all season.
Van Gaal has little faith in current right-back Rafael da Silva, according to The Guardian, and considers Coleman to be a more robust option to fit into his wing-back system.
Coleman has been repeatedly linked with United since David Moyes left Everton to take the reins at Old Trafford 18 months ago, and is still being linked with Van Gaal in charge.
The 26-year-old has made 136 appearances for Everton since arriving in 2009.
