Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is reportedly eager to add Everton's Seamus Coleman to his squad during the January transfer window.
It has been suggested that Van Gaal is not convinced by Rafael da Silva's defensive ability, while Antonio Valencia, who has filled in during the Brazilian's injury absence, is more comfortable on the wing.
Those circumstances have brought about the interest in Republic of Ireland international Coleman, who is valued at £25m, according to the Daily Star.
The report also claimed that United came close to signing the 26-year-old during the summer, but a swap deal involving former Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini never materialised.
In recent weeks it has been claimed that Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is keen to bolster his attacking ranks with the loan addition of United winger Adnan Januzaj and the Red Devils could use the Belgian as bait in any negotiations.
