Newcastle United slap a £20m price tag on Cheick Tiote to ward off interest from rival clubs.

Newcastle United have slapped a £20m price tag on Cheick Tiote.

The Ivory Coast star, who signed a long-term deal at St James' Park last year, has attracted interest from Arsenal.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with Tiote, although neither club is said to be willing to meet Newcastle's asking price.

However, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is hoping to negotiate with the Magpies in a bid to convince them to lower the fee, talkSPORT understands.

Tiote joined Newcastle from Dutch side FC Twente for £3.5m in 2010.
