Manchester United reportedly step up their pursuit of Leicester City playmaker James Maddison in an effort to beat Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

The 22-year-old has continued to impress for the Foxes so far this season, scoring one and creating two in his six league outings to add to his seven goals and seven assists from his debut top-flight campaign in 2018-19.

Such form has been recognised with an international call-up, and the clamour for his signature is also understood to be increasing amongst some of the league's biggest clubs.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are two teams credited with an interest in Maddison, and the Evening Standard reports that United are now ready to step up their chase in an effort to beat their rivals to the playmaker.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that his priority in the January transfer window will be bringing in a new centre-forward, but he is also considering options to provide better service to his strikers.

However, Leicester are unlikely to be willing to sell one of their star men in the middle of the season and United will therefore likely have to wait until next summer at the earliest to get their man.

Solskjaer has nonetheless reportedly ordered the club to increase their scouting of the England international.
