Former Manchester United youngster Omari Forson reportedly decides to join a Serie A club after his exit from Old Trafford.

Omari Forson has reportedly made the decision to move to Serie A after his exit from Manchester United.

In 2023-24, head coach Erik ten Hag promoted the midfielder to the senior ranks in the hope of the 19-year-old establishing himself at first-team level.

However, the Dutchman failed to provide the prospect with the subsequent game time that would convince him to sign a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

Forson would make just one start and six substitute outings in all competitions, providing a crucial assist in a 4-3 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers but featuring for just 11 minutes from March onwards.

As a result, there was an inevitability about the England Under-20 international choosing to take his chances away from a club that he initially joined in 2019.

Forson on his way to Italy

Given his free-agent status, Forson has naturally been attracting widespread interest in his signature from clubs in both England and abroad.

With first-team football his priority, though, it appears that the playmaker will make his way to a mid-table Serie A club in the hope of enhancing his reputation.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Forson has agreed personal terms ahead of formally signing for Monza on July 1.

Romano adds that the starlet will pen a four-year contract with the Italian side, who will have ambitions to qualify for Europe in 2024-25.

Why Monza?

Deciding to move to Monza at this particular stage can be considered somewhat of a risk courtesy of head coach Raffaele Palladino having just agreed to make the switch to Fiorentina.

Palladino has earned that job through Monza's performances during their first ever two campaigns in Serie A, where 11th and 12th-placed finishes have been recorded.

Relegation has never looked like a possibility with a top-half finish only not materialising courtesy of a poor end to the recent season.

A period of transition is now expected - particularly when bigger clubs could target some of their stars - but the fresh start for both Forson and the club that he is joining may benefit him in the long run.
