Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is ready to commit his long-term future to the club by signing a new £400,000-a-week contract, according to a report.

David de Gea has reportedly been persuaded to stay on at Manchester United following the sacking of Jose Mourinho and the offer of a bumper new deal.

The Red Devils triggered the option of a 12-month extension to the 28-year-old's existing contract towards the end of last year, keeping him tied down until June 2020.

With De Gea due to become a free agent in 17 months' time, United have had to weigh up whether to cash in this summer or let arguably the world's most in-demand keeper leave for nothing next year.

According to The Sun, however, the Spain international is now ready to commit his future to the club, with United making him the best-paid player in his position on a £400,000-a-week contract, which includes bonuses.

Mourinho's recent dismissal is also said to have played a big part in De Gea's decision, having grown disillusioned under the Portuguese.

Paris Saint-Germain are rumoured to still be in the running to sign De Gea, who proved his worth to United once again last weekend with a string of saves in the 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
