Chelsea have reportedly informed Benfica that they wish to sign Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal.
Having fallen out of favour at the Portuguese giants, Fernandes is expected to join a Premier League club before the end of the January transfer window.
While West Ham United are allegedly regarded as the favourites, Manchester United and Everton are also said to be monitoring the situation.
However, according to Sky Sports News, Chelsea hold an interest in the 20-year-old, aware that the youngster may prefer a move to London due to his mother living in England's capital.
The report claims that the Blues are keen to bring in Fernandes on a deal until the end of next season, before pushing through a £55m permanent transfer.
Fernandes has made 25 starts and 18 substitute outings in all competitions during his time in the first team at Benfica.
