Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits that he has been left encouraged by Manchester United's start to the new Premier League campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has acknowledged that he has been left encouraged by Manchester United's start to the new season.

After ending the last campaign with a 2-0 defeat at home to Cardiff City, United produced one of the best performances of Solskjaer's reign on Sunday as they thrashed Chelsea by a 4-0 scoreline.

While refusing to get carried away after one game, Solskjaer has admitted that he had been left impressed by United's running statistics from the fixture at Old Trafford.

When quizzed on whether it was a sign of things to come from his players, Solskjaer told Sky Sports News: "Well we hope so, I know physical stats are not a lot to go from but there is a shift from this first league game and the Chelsea match three games from the end of last season.

"How much more we run now compared to then is encouraging. We've got energy, it's still early doors, and we're working hard on fitness still."

United are next in action when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Monday night.
