Jose Mourinho expects to miss out on Manchester United job?

Jose Mourinho's failure to promote youth players during his managerial career reportedly dents his chances of landing the Manchester United manager's job.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly resigned himself to the fact that he will not be the next manager of Manchester United.

The Portuguese coach has been strongly linked with the Old Trafford post in recent weeks, so much so that the majority of leading bookmakers have made him the odds-on favourite.

However, The Mirror claims that members of the United board are concerned by Mourinho's failure to promote players from the academy into the first team throughout his managerial career.

Instead, the report adds that the Red Devils plan to let Louis van Gaal see out the remaining 12 months on his contract, before assistant Ryan Giggs takes control.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Van Gaal suggested that he expected to be around next season when he said: "There are a lot of players coming to Manchester United next season because they know I give them a chance."

There has been a homegrown player in every single United matchday squad since October 1937 - a tradition that it appears the club feel will be under threat with Mourinho's appointment.
