Rene Meulensteen: 'Jesse Lingard is the English Andres Iniesta'

Rene Meulensteen believes that Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard is the 'English Andres Iniesta'.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has described Jesse Lingard as the 'English Andres Iniesta'.

The 22-year-old has forced his way into Louis van Gaal's team this season, starting five of the eight games.

The England Under-21 international also scored his first senior goal for the Red Devils in their 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.

"I see him as the English version of Iniesta," Meulensteen told United Review. "He has still got a long way to go but that is the sort of player I see in him."

Lingard joined United's academy in 2000.
