Five English clubs hold European Super League breakaway talks?

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool all reportedly hold talks to play in a breakaway European Super League.

Five of English football's biggest clubs have reportedly held discussions about a move to a yet-to-be-formed European Super League.

Representatives of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool were pictured leaving London's Dorchester Hotel yesterday afternoon following supposed negotiations with American billionaire Stephen Ross.

The Sun claims that Ross, who owns the Miami Dolphins and also cooked up the idea for the International Champions Cup, outlined plans for a breakaway league during a lengthy meeting.

It is believed that under Ross's proposal, England's elite sides would join other top outfits from around Europe, which in turn would eradicate the risk of missing out on the lucrative revenue provided by Champions League football.

It is something that may particularly appeal to United, Chelsea and Liverpool, all of whom look likely to miss out on the top four this season.

If Ross is successful in his bid, the new venture would effectively end the Champions League as a competition.
