Rio Ferdinand loses respect for Luis Suarez

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand admits that he has lost all respect for Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan refused to shake Patrice Evra's hand.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has spoken out against Liverpool's Luis Suarez after the striker refused to shake Patrice Evra's hand before the two sides met on Saturday.

After seeing the incident - the first time that Suarez and Evra had met since the Uruguayan was banned for eight matches for racially abusing the French left-back - Ferdinand withdrew his own hand from the lineup when Suarez came around.

"I thought it was bad decision-making from their guy. It's a touchy subject at the minute and things could have been put to bed a little bit easier if the handshake had been done," Ferdinand told MUTV.

"After seeing what I saw I decided not to shake his hand. He's not got the respect that he needs to have in these situations and acknowledge he's made a mistake and say sorry. I lost all respect for the guy after that.

"It could have been resolved today, maybe, between the two people who are involved. After this, it's not great. It's disappointing. I expected more from the other guy but it wasn't to be."

Rio's brother Anton is currently embroiled in a racism row of his own involving former England captain and Rio's long-time international teammate John Terry.
