Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has withdrawn from tonight's England friendly against Scotland due to an eye infection.
The Football Association have announced that the 32-year-old will play no part in the clash at Wembley, which takes place just three days before the start of the new Premier League season.
A statement on the FA's official website said: "Carrick, who has been capped 29 times by England, has returned to his club and misses the game on Wednesday evening."
It is unclear whether Carrick's eye infection will put him in doubt for United's league opener against Swansea City on Saturday.
