Manchester City are said to be in surprise talks to take Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson on a one-year loan deal.
The 33-year-old has past experience in the Premier League with the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Charlton Athletic, but he has spent the last six seasons in the Championship and has made over 170 appearances for the Rams since 2015.
According to The Mirror, City boss Pep Guardiola is in the hunt for an experienced stopper to act as backup to first-choice keeper Ederson and deputy Claudio Bravo and has now identified Carson as the man to take the number three role.
The newspaper says that City have initiated talks with the Rams over a one-year loan arrangement rather than a permanent deal for the player, who had been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest earlier in the transfer window.
Should he complete a move to the Etihad, Carson is unlikely to ever feature for the Premier League champions barring an unfortunate series of injuries to Ederson and Bravo.
