Barcelona are reportedly regarded as the favourites to secure a reunion with Paris Saint-Germain youngster Xavi Simons, edging out Manchester City in the process.

Barcelona are reportedly open to re-signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons during one of the next two transfer windows.

Having failed to agree terms with Barcelona in 2019, the then-16-year-old made the switch to Parc des Princes in the hope to earning more opportunities in the senior ranks.

Although Simons is still three months short of his 19th birthday, a return of just four first-team outings is regarded as a disappointment, particularly with just one coming in Ligue 1.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona have emerged as the favourites to sign the Netherlands Under-19 international in the near future.

The report suggests that the Catalan giants are prepared to view Simons as a potential long-term replacement for Frenkie de Jong, who has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou.

Manchester City and Newcastle United have also been linked with Simons, a prospect who will remain in demand over the coming weeks with his contract due to expire in the summer.
