Manuel Pellegrini: 'Sergio Aguero to return in early January'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini claims that Sergio Aguero will be back in action in the "first weeks of January" as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that Sergio Aguero will be back involved with the squad in early January.

After tearing a ligament in his knee earlier this month, there were fears that the Argentine could be out for much longer, but Pellegrini is hopeful of having him available for key games against Arsenal and Chelsea.

"Sergio has a torn ligament and I think it will be long before that tie, probably in the first weeks of January, that he will play," the City boss told reporters.

The positive update means Aguero could be set to return against Arsenal on January 18, while he will be expected to be fully fit for the trip to face Chelsea at the end of the month.

Aguero has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season.
