Lyon progress in Coupe de la Ligue

Lyon book their place in the last eight of the Coupe de la Ligue with a 3-2 win at home to Reims.

Lyon have reached the last eight of the Coupe de la Ligue with a 3-2 win at home to Reims.

The hosts dominated the opening 45 minutes and nearly took the lead early on when Clement Grenier's shot came back off the post.

Grenier missed two further opportunities before the break, while Bafetimbi Gomis also shot off target as the teams went in level at half time.

However, Lyon finally made the breakthrough on 58 minutes when Gomis was on hand at the back post to head in Alexandre Lacazette's cross.

They then doubled their lead just three minutes later as Lacazette drilled a low effort into the bottom corner.

Prince Oniangue cut the deficit for Reims soon after with a stinging volley from inside the box, but Lyon restored their two-goal advantage eight minutes from time thanks to Yoann Gourcuff's spectacular drive from 30 yards.

There was late drama as Floyd Ayite scored from the penalty spot for the visitors, but Lyon managed to hold on and seal their progress in the competition.
