Lyon have cut the gap on Lille to three points with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Auxerre.
The hosts were in front on the half-hour mark when the referee pointed to the spot after goalkeeper Olivier Sorin had fouled Lisandro Lopez inside the area.
Lopez got up to take the kick and dispatched it into the bottom right corner.
The visitors drew level when Alain Traore fired home from close range three minutes before the interval.
The scores remained level until Lopez won another spot-kick, this time drawing the challenge from Willy Boly.
Once again, Lopez stepped up to take it but this time he went the other way and restored Lyon's lead.
Remi Garde's men held out for to 2-1 victory and make sure the points stayed at the Stade de Gerland.
