Lyon fight from behind in Coupe de la Ligue semi-final victory

Lyon boss Remi Garde praises his players after their Coupe de la Ligue semi-final victory over Lorient.

Lyon boss Remi Garde has praised his team's mental strength after they fought back from two goals down to win their Coupe de la Ligue semi-final clash with Lorient.

Les Gones were heading out of the competition after second-half goals from Innocent Emeghara and Kevin Monnet-Paquet had put the hosts 2-0 up.

However, Alexandre Lacazette's 80th-minute strike halved the deficit before Jimmy Briand powered home a 94th-minute equaliser.

Bafetimbi Gomis put the visitors 3-2 up in extra time before Lacazette scored his second to book Lyon's first domestic final since 2008.

"It was a real cup match tonight, a really open game. We were exhausted physically and mentally but the players dug deep inside themselves and found what we needed to reach the final," said Garde.

"We had some tough moments tonight but it ended in joy. Once again we've reacted well to a tough situation, and I have to congratulate my players. They have phenomenal resources in terms of their mentality.

"We suffered a lot, but you have to reach a final. And we'll give everything we've got to take the title."

Lyon will face either Marseille or Nice in the final at the Stade de France on April 14.
