Report: Liverpool consider Axel Witsel move

A report claims that Liverpool could move for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel in the January transfer window.

Liverpool could reportedly move for Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel in the winter transfer window.

The Belgium international was strongly linked with a move away from Zenit in the summer, but despite interest from both the Premier League and Serie A, Witsel remained in Russia.

The 27-year-old, who joined Zenit from Benfica in 2012, is widely expected to leave in January, however, and according to The Mirror, Liverpool are prepared to battle Juventus for the defensive midfielder's signature.

Witsel, who was also believed to be interesting Everton before the start of the season, will be a free agent next summer.
