Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that the club are interested in signing Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Rumours were rife that the 22-year-old had already agreed a switch to Liverpool, but those reports seem to be premature.
The midfielder, who has also been linked to Arsenal and Barcelona, is believed to be keen to sign for the Bavarians.
Now, Salihamidzic has confirmed that Bayern are interested in getting a deal done for the Germany international, who has scored six goals in 12 outings for his country.
"Leon Goretzka is a great player, that's clear," The Guardian quotes Salihamidzic as saying. "He is a Schalke player and we obviously respect that, but he is a Germany international and we can say that we are interested in him."
The midfielder's current deal expires in the summer, which means that he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club this month.
