Liverpool 'agree' £27.5m attacker transfer after rejected £15m offer

Brentford reportedly agree a £27.5m deal to sign Liverpool attacker Fabio Carvalho, whom Southampton recently had a £15m offer rejected for.

Liverpool have accepted a £27.5m bid from Brentford for Portuguese attacker Fabio Carvalho, according to a report.

The former Fulham starlet was loaned out to RB Leipzig and Hull City with mixed success last season, failing to make the grade in Germany before impressing with the Tigers in the Championship.

Carvalho has since proved his worth to Arne Slot as one of the stars of Liverpool's pre-season period, taking advantage of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota's international absences.

During the Reds' tour of the USA, Carvalho scored in wins over Arsenal and Manchester United, and the 21-year-old was reportedly the subject of a failed £15m offer from Southampton earlier this month.

While Carvalho was supposedly happy to stay at Liverpool had he received assurances over his game time, Slot would have been unlikely to promise him regular minutes following Jota and Gakpo's returns from Euro 2024 duty.

Liverpool to retain hefty sell-on clause from Carvalho sale

However, Liverpool still insisted on making a healthy profit through any potential sale, and according to The Athletic, the Reds have now said yes to a £27.5m offer from Brentford.

Carvalho is also said to have given the green light to a switch to the Gtech Community Stadium, and he will undergo an imminent medical before penning a long-term deal with Thomas Frank's side.

As part of the deal, Liverpool will supposedly retain a hefty sell-on clause of 17.5%, while Fulham - who received £5m from Carvalho's Anfield transfer in 2022 - also stand to receive 20% of any profit that Liverpool make.

The Portugal youth international will leave Liverpool after making just 21 competitive appearances for the Reds, all of which came in his debut season during the 2022-23 campaign, where he netted three goals in all competitions.

Carvalho initially earned ample opportunities under Jurgen Klopp that year, but he fell down the pecking order in the second half of the campaign and also failed to score or assist in 15 games for RB Leipzig last year.

However, Carvalho returned to form in the Championship with Hull, recording nine goals and two assists in 20 matches for the Tigers, who narrowly missed out on the second-tier playoffs.

The 21-year-old will become Brentford's second signing of the summer after striker Igor Thiago, who suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season, and the Bees are also rumoured to be closing in on the loan signing of Napoli's Jens Cajuste.

What other sales could Liverpool make?

While Adrian, Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip have all departed on free transfers, and the young duo of Calvin Ramsay and Lewis Koumas have left on loan, Liverpool's only permanent sale so far this summer has been centre-back Billy Koumetio to Dundee.

More are expected to follow Carvalho out of the exit door in the coming weeks, though, including out-of-favour defenders Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams, while Tyler Morton and Sepp van den Berg are also available for the right price.

However, Liverpool are fighting tooth and nail to agree new deals with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, all of whom are in the last 12 months of their terms.
