Luis Suarez: Top five Liverpool goals

Sports Mole selects Luis Suarez's best five goals of his Liverpool career to date.

Luis Suarez has six games left to grab the strike he needs to become the first Liverpool player to score 30 Premier League goals in a season. Last weekend he went past Robbie Fowler's record 28 and is certainly showing no signs of letting up in the Reds' title chase.

The manager of their next opponents West Ham United, Sam Allardyce, has labelled the striker as one of the best in the world. With that in mind, Sports Mole has taken a look at some of the goals that have helped him make his name at Liverpool.

1. Liverpool vs. Newcastle United - November 4, 2012

The mark of a genuine world-class striker is often his ability to make a goal out of nothing, and that is exactly what Suarez did at Anfield against Newcastle last season. Jose Enrique's ball forward was nothing more than a hopeful punt, but Suarez had other ideas. He controlled the ball on his chest with one touch, took it round Tim Krul with his second before slotting into an empty net. Only Robin van Persie's volley against Aston Villa beat this to the goal of the season award last year.

2. Norwich City vs. Liverpool - April 28, 2012

Another sign of a top forward is one who scores when he has absolutely no right to. In the Premier League Suarez has played Norwich City for fools on countless occasions, and poor John Ruddy needs only to be a couple of yards out of position to be punished. In this goal Suarez pinches the ball from Elliott Ward, before outrageously lobbing the Canaries goalkeeper from near enough the halfway line. This was goal number three in a brilliant hat-trick.

3. Liverpool vs. Norwich City - December 4, 2013

Another day, another hat-trick against Norwich. This time it was at Anfield, and this time it was four he scored in a 5-1 thrashing. Liverpool were on top of proceedings 15 minutes in, but could not find a way past Norwich. Cue Suarez to pull off a half-volley from some 40 yards, striking the bouncing ball hard and high, with the right touch to get it to dip back under the bar beyond - that's right - Ruddy. It will surely be in contention for goal of the season among some very strong competition this year.

4. Stoke City vs. Liverpool - October 26, 2011

There is no better response to a chorus of boos from home supporters than by silencing them with a goal out of the top drawer. In the League Cup in Suarez's first full season at the club, the Uruguayan used the Stoke fans' jeers to his advantage by nutmegging Ryan Shotton before clipping a superb curling shot from the corner of the box just inside the far post. This goal shows everything that Suarez has been about this season - an intricate touch with deadly finishing skills.

5. Liverpool vs. Manchester City - August 26, 2012

Of course, Suarez is a well-rounded forward who can also score from headers and free kicks. Arguably his best dead ball was this effort against Manchester City at the start of last season, which but for some poor defending near the end might have earned Liverpool all three points in the 2-2 draw. Even from 30 yards, Suarez managed to find the right technique to strike the ball low, around the wall and into the bottom corner. Steven Gerrard won the free kick with his shot blocked by Jack Rodwell's arm, but it was the right decision to let Suarez take it.
