Luis Suarez named PFA Player of the Year

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is named the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been named the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year.

The 27-year-old missed the first six games of the season following his 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, but has scored 30 goals to help the Reds top the Premier League table.

"Really this is for my teammates and the staff at Liverpool because without their help I wouldn't have this prize," said the striker upon accepting his award.

"The Premier League is full of really great players and so it is a great honour when these players recognise your work on the pitch."

The Uruguayan international beat out competition from the likes of Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure and Liverpool teammates Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge.

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard has been named the Young Player of the Year, having scored 17 goals for the Blues this season, with Sturridge coming in second place and Luke Shaw in third.

Suarez has also been named in the PFA Team of the Year, where he is one of three Liverpool players.
