Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly still the frontrunner to become the next Everton boss, despite a backlash from angry Toffees supporters.

Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly still in the frame to become Everton's next manager despite backlash from fans.

After it was reported that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri had held talks with the Spaniard, a number of Everton supporters expressed their angry feelings towards Benitez by putting up banners outside Goodison Park.

During his six-year spell with the Reds of Merseyside, Benitez won the club their fifth Champions League title and mostly angered Toffees supporters by calling Everton a small club in 2007.

However, The Mirror reports that Everton are still pursuing a deal for Benitez despite it being reported earlier this week that Moshiri had ended talks because of the protests from fans.

Benitez would become the first manager to have been in charge of both Merseyside clubs and it is believed that the 60-year-old is confident that he can win over the Goodison Park faithful.

Benitez last managed in the Premier League between 2016 and 2019 when he was at the helm at Newcastle United.
