Andrea Pirlo praises Steven Gerrard's versatility

Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo praises Steven Gerrard's versatility after adapting to a deep-lying midfield role with ease in the last few weeks.

Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo has praised Liverpool's Steven Gerrard for adapting to his latest position, a deep-lying midfield role, with ease.

The 34-year-old Italian believes that the Reds captain, who has been playing just in front of the back four for his club in recent weeks, has what it takes to continue at the highest level in his new-found position for several years to come.

"The intelligent players adapt - and Steven Gerrard has the ability to do that," the Italian is quoted as saying by the The Express.

"He is an excellent passer of the ball, possesses an intelligent football brain, and has great vision. He has all the qualities to play a deeper role.

"If you look after yourself and are willing to adapt, there is no reason why you can't play at the top level until your late 30s. Gerrard is a top professional, it is very possible he has many top years left for Liverpool and England in a new role."

Gerrard has also lined up in the right-back position for Liverpool in the past.
