Alan Pardew: Lessons to be learnt from Andy Carroll move

Alan Pardew says that Andy Carrol and Jose Enrique's moves to Liverpool proves that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has said that Jose Enrique and Andy Carroll's transfers are proof that the "grass is not always greener on the other side".

Both players left the North East to join the Reds, who find themselves 11 points adrift of the Magpies.

Newcastle are now five points off a Champions League berth following their 2-1 victory over Kenny Dalglish's men at the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday.

"At the moment everyone wants to play for Newcastle," Pardew told talkSPORT. "We've got players who are genuinely happy.

"There's a lesson [to be learnt] with Jose Enrique and Andy Carroll, sometimes the grass isn't always greener.

"When things are well and there's a nice environment [why would you want to leave]? There's investment in the squad, hopefully my players will look at that during the summer and use that as an example."

Carroll joined Liverpool for £35m over a year ago, while Enrique joined in the summer for a reported £7m fee.
