Joel Matip: 'First-half display has set benchmark'

Liverpool defender Joel Matip says that his side's first-half display against Chelsea has set the standard for how they want to play this season.

Liverpool defender Joel Matip has admitted that he was delighted with his side's performance in the 2-1 victory away at Chelsea on Friday night.

Goals from Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson earned the Merseyside giants an impressive win at Stamford Bridge, and summer signing Matip says that their first-half performance has set the benchmark for how they want to play in the Premier League this season.

The 25-year-old told the club's official website: "To win at Stamford Bridge is always nice and very good, it's a good feeling.

"We want to play like we played in the first half. We want to keep the ball, we want to play and let them run and it worked very good from the beginning. It was a nice game for us.

"When it went to 2-1 we had to fight for the victory, but we took the fight and we won."

Liverpool now sit in fourth place in the standings.
