Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that the club are playing their best football for 20 years.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes that the club are currently playing their best football for over 20 years.

The Reds are seventh in the Premier League with 48 points from 31 games.

However, they have scored 59 goals in the league, the second-most behind leaders Manchester United, and Aldridge thinks that the club are playing their finest style of attacking football since the striker played for the club in the late '80s.

"I might raise a few eyebrows with this, but I think the way Liverpool have been playing under Brendan Rodgers is the best we have seen at Anfield since the team I played with in the 1980s," Aldridge said in his column in the Liverpool Echo.

"They go forward as well as anyone in the league, they may have one or two defensive flaws to iron out but at the other end they are a thrilling team to watch."

Rodgers's side beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park on Sunday.
