Half-Time Report: Nathaniel Clyne strike gives Liverpool lead over Bournemouth

Nathaniel Clyne's first goal for Liverpool gives the Reds a 1-0 lead in their League Cup tie with Bournemouth at Anfield, as Adam Bogdan denies Junior Stanislas late on.

Nathaniel Clyne's first goal for Liverpool has given the Reds a 1-0 lead in their League Cup tie with Bournemouth this evening.

Both sides made a positive start to the match, as Reds forward Roberto Firmino dragged a shot wide just seconds after kickoff, before Cherries winger Junior Stanislas forced a good save from Adam Bogdan.

The hosts improved as the half went on, as Firmino tried his luck with a dipping effort from 25 yards, which Bournemouth keeper Adam Federici tipped over the bar.

Liverpool took the lead on 17 minutes, as young midfielder Joao Teixera saw a back-heeled effort cleared off the line, before Clyne pounced onto the rebound and fired into the net.

Bournemouth responded well to going behind, as Harry Arter fired narrowly wide from the edge of the Liverpool box, before Stanislas headed straight at Bogdan from a Matt Ritchie cross.

Bogdan denied the Cherries again before the break, as the Hungarian international parried a curling Stanislas free kick, before Teixera fired into the side-netting at the other end of the pitch.
