Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson may miss the Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday after suffering a muscle strain on England duty.
The Three Lions midfielder did not feature in the 3-1 friendly win over Scotland at Celtic Park as a precaution to protect a "very minor" hamstring injury.
Henderson will return to Anfield to be assessed by Liverpool's medical staff ahead of the weekend.
"Jordan has a slight hamstring problem," England manager Roy Hodgson told reporters.
"It's very minor. He wanted to play but I didn't want to take the risk."
Henderson is just one of a number of injury casualties from England's final fixtures of 2014, with Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw and Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck both picking up niggles.
