Liverpool fined by UEFA for second time in a week

UEFA fines Liverpool £8,400 for fireworks being set off during their Europa League quarter-final meeting with Borussia Dortmund at Anfield.

Liverpool have been fined by UEFA for the second time in the space of a week relating to events during their Europa League quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund.

European football's governing body has imposed an £8,400 fine on the Reds for fans letting off fireworks during their memorable 4-3 victory over Dortmund at Anfield last month.

The match saw Liverpool recover from 3-1 down in the final half-hour to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition courtesy of Dejan Lovren's stoppage-time winner.

However, events in the stands have seen the club hit by a second fine in quick succession after they were also punished for illicit chanting during their meeting with Manchester United in the previous round.

They were fined £35,000 on that occasion, half of which is suspended for two years, in addition to a further £13,000 for objects being thrown, crowd disturbances, fireworks being set off and a late kickoff.

There could be additional sanctions to come for the club too, with outstanding charges relating to more crowd disturbances and fireworks during last week's Europa League final against Sevilla in Basel.
