Kasper Schmeichel targets swift return to action after undergoing surgery

Kasper Schmeichel aims to be back between the sticks for Denmark's meeting with Armenia next Sunday, just a week on from surgery on a hernia injury.

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has revealed that he is hopeful of being back in action later this week after undergoing successful surgery on a hernia injury.

The 29-year-old, an ever-present in the Foxes' charge to the Premier League title last season, was forced off during the 2-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday.

City boss Claudio Ranieri announced after the match that Schmeichel would go under the knife for a minor operation, but added that he did not expect his first-choice keeper to miss any further league action.

Schmeichel has now further allayed fans' fears by declaring that he intends to play a part in international side Denmark's meeting with Armenia next weekend, posting on Twitter: "Operation went well. Recovery starts now! I'll do everything in my power to be fit for our game vs Armenia on Sunday."

Schmeichel kept 15 clean sheets across Leicester's 38 league games last term, making 97 saves in total.
