Leeds United have released a statement vowing to ban 21-year-old supporter Aaron Cawley for life for his actions in Friday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Cawley has been jailed for four months for striking Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in the face and Leeds have made their position on the matter known.

The statement read: "We are pleased to see the matter dealt with by the courts so quickly. We note that he has been given a 16-week jail sentence and a five-year banning order.

"The club will also ban the individual for life from Elland Road when this banning order expires. While we are pleased to see justice brought so quickly, our one disappointment is that we feel the sentence could, and should, have been considerably longer."

Cawley had previously been banned from attending football matches when he was just 16.
