Preview: Leeds United vs. Millwall - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Championship clash between Leeds United and Millwall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Leeds United play host to Millwall on Sunday afternoon looking for the victory that will ensure that they remain in the automatic promotion places heading into the international break.

At a time when the Yorkshire giants sit in second position in the standings, a resurgent Millwall are 16th and currently out of the mix for relegation.

For a number of weeks, Leeds witnessed Ipswich Town put together a run of form that rendered any small slip-up potentially costly in the race for the top two.

However, after the Tractor Boys dramatically conceded in the 95th and 100th minutes to lose 2-1 at Cardiff City, Leeds are back in second place.

All things considered, it is what Daniel Farke's side deserve; they have won 11 of their last 12 matches in the Championship, with the only setback coming through a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town on March 2.

While the goals have started to dry up to a certain extent, 1-0 and 2-0 victories over Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday since the stalemate at the John Smith's Stadium would have impressed Farke.

Leeds also head into this contest having prevailed in their most recent seven league fixtures at Elland Road, a run that started on December 23.

Meanwhile, Millwall have proven to be the surprise package of the past few weeks, with Neil Harris having an impact on his return to The Den that even he could not have anticipated.

Wins over Southampton, Watford and Birmingham City have been recorded since February 24, with the other game of Harris's new tenure ending 1-1 at Blackburn Rovers.

Having previously lost six times in seven matches, it has been an astonishing turnaround, one that has moved the Lions five points clear of the bottom three.

Harris will not get ahead of himself, particularly with West Bromwich Albion also to follow after the international break, but the pressure has been eased ahead of taking on the toughest test in this season's Championship.

Team News

Having had a total of nine days since their last outing, Farke may be prepared to select the same Leeds XI for this contest.

Daniel James and Joel Piroe will likely remain among the replacements, where they could be joined by Jaidon Anthony who is available to return to the squad.

Jamie Shackleton may also be in a position to be selected after observing concussion protocols for recent games.

Harris is in a similar position as his opposite number and it is likely that Millwall's starting lineup will stay the same.

Ryan Longman is an alternative to get the nod over Duncan Watmore, but there will be no returns from injury for the likes of Shaun Hutchinson, Kevin Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw.

Leeds United possible starting lineup:
Meslier; Gray, Ampadu, Rodon, Firpo; Gruev, Kamara; Gnonto, Rutter, Summerville; Bamford

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Sarkic; Leonard, Tanganga, Cooper, Bryan; Honeyman, Saville, Mitchell, Watmore; Flemming, Obafemi

We say: Leeds United 3-1 Millwall

With Millwall having been the second-best performing side in the Championship over the past four games, they will fancy their chances of success at Elland Road. However, we have to back Leeds' superior quality to shine through, particularly when the stakes are getting higher.
