Landon Donovan has admitted that it was a "dream" for him to finish his career by winning the MLS Cup with the Los Angeles Galaxy as his side narrowly defeated the New England Revolution.
The 32-year-old's illustrious playing career ended as the Galaxy recorded an extra-time victory over the Revolution to claim their fifth triumph in the history of the competition.
"It's a dream to finish like this," Donovan told reporters. "For me, it's perfect.
"All my family, more than 80 of my friends and family, were in the stadium and it's a perfect day because they know what we have gone through in the last 16 years - and all are very happy."
Donovan ends his career as the MLS's all-time leading scorer with 144 goals, and a six-time Cup winner with four triumphs with the Galaxy and two with the San Jose Earthquakes.
