Diego Maradona: "Never count the Italians out"

Diego Maradona admits that Spain cannot afford to underestimate Group C opponents Italy at Euro 2012 ahead of their meeting this afternoon.

Diego Maradona has said that Spain cannot afford to underestimate Group C opponents Italy at Euro 2012.

Maradona, who accepts that the Azzurri are struggling with injuries, has urged the defending champions to remember his 1982 Argentina side before counting the Italians out.

"Cesare Prandelli is well aware of the calibre of opposition he is facing," Maradona told the Indian Times.

"In defence Prandelli is struggling with injured Juve captain Giorgio Chiellini at left back.

"The Spanish are favoured, but so was Argentina when I faced the Azzurri at the World Cup in 1982 and we lost, so never count the Italians out."

The Azzuri will take on Spain in Gdansk this afternoon.
