Ipswich Town see off Burnley

Freddie Sears and David McGoldrick score second-half goals as Ipswich Town beat Burnley 2-0 at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town have maintained their unbeaten start to the season by earning a 2-0 victory over Burnley this evening.

The visitors went close to taking an early lead when Michael Kightly's strike came crashing back off the post.

Freddie Sears then tried his luck for the hosts with a fierce low drive that was gathered by Tom Heaton.

In the final moments of the half, the Clarets almost broke the deadlock when Jelle Vossen was slipped in by Kightly, but his effort was saved by the keeper.

After the break, Tommy Smith had a chance for the hosts when he rose to meet a corner from Ainsley Maitland-Niles, before putting his header wide of the post.

Ipswich continued to dominate and in the 66th minute they broke the deadlock as Brett Pitman's cross was turned into the net by Sears.

The Tractor Boys doubled their lead five minutes later when David McGoldrick powered in a header from Maitland-Niles's corner.

Michael Keane almost pulled a goal back for the visitors late on, but his header was saved as Ipswich kept hold of their clean sheet.
