Christophe Berra seals late win for Ipswich Town

Christophe Berra scores with seven minutes to go to wrap up a 3-2 win for Ipswich Town against Blackpool.

Ipswich Town had to rely on a late Christophe Berra goal to seal all three points against already relegated Blackpoool at Portman Road this afternoon.

It was the visiting Tangerines who struck first in the contest as Andrea Orlandi netted his third goal of the seasonwhen he met Henry Cameron's left-wing cross.

Ipswich roared back immediately, and could have levelled the game when Luke Varney nodded Teddy Bishop's corner just inches wide of Elliott Parish's goal.

Mick McCarthy's side were level on 24 minutes when Sears found himself in the perfect spot to collect a knock down and fire a left-foot effort into the back of the net.

Just four minutes later Sears was on hand to finish off an incisive passing move from close range and put Ipswich into the lead.

Daryl Murphy should have extended the lead further when he went through on goal after the restart, but the Championship's top scorer could only blast his effort wide of the target.

Sears was then denied his hat-trick when Parish kept his low strike out with his legs, before Blackpool levelled the game against the run of play when Cameron turned home Gary Madine's cross at the back post.

Tyrone Mings wasted a golden opportunity to win the game when he hammered Bishop's cross high over the top of goal from just eight yards out.

However, McCarthy's side finally bagged the winner when Murphy's cross found Berra at the back post and the Scot made no mistake from close range.
