Massimo Moratti blames the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Esteban Cambiasso's injury and not the players' efforts for Inter Milan's Coppa Italia exit.

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti remained upbeat about his side's performance, despite their Coppa Italia elimination at the hands of Roma on Wednesday night.

Moratti admitted that there was not a lot that could be done about Esteban Cambiasso's injury in the warmup and said that Inter played well considering the midfielder's problem.

"I think they did what they could because it was an extreme situation tonight, and losing a key player a minute before the game certainly doesn't help either," Moratti told the club's official website.

"Still, they performed very well in the first half, they showed what they can do, even those we thought might struggle to perform in Milan. So that's good.

"However, it was quite natural that if Roma had scored a goal, all that inner strength you need to believe you can get a result would slip away."

Roma now face Lazio in next month's final.
