Huddersfield Town and Stoke City play out a 1-1 draw in their Boxing Day Premier League meeting at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield Town and Stoke City have played out a 1-1 draw in their Boxing Day Premier League meeting at the John Smith's Stadium.

The first sight of goal went the way of the Terriers as Tom Ince dragged a low shot wide on five minutes after a through-ball from Aaron Mooy.

Stoke responded with two shots in quick succession but Jonas Lossl first parried Xherdan Shaqiri's diagonal effort before getting back to his feet to charge down Joe Allen's rebound.

However, Huddersfield succeeded in taking the lead on 10 minutes when Tommy Smith and Collin Quaner combined on the right flank to set up Ince, who drilled home from close range despite Jack Butland getting his fingers to the ball.

Both sides weighed in with numerous efforts in a frantic first half, which included Lossl pushing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's overhead kick onto the post following a goalmouth scramble just before the half-hour mark.

The 28-year-old then lofted the ball into the back of the Huddersfield net on the stroke of half time but the goal was ruled out for offside as the Terriers maintained a slender lead going into the break.

Stoke succeeded in pulling a goal back on the hour against the run of play, Allen breaking clear on the left and crossing for substitute Ramadan Sobhi to slide home his second goal in as many games.

Huddersfield set about trying to edge back into the lead and find a winner, but Mark Hughes's charges held firm and were even aggrieved to have a penalty shout turned down on 71 minutes when Mame Biram Diouf appeared to be felled by Christopher Schindler.

Neither side could force the issue and the full-time whistle ensured a share of the points in Yorkshire.

Huddersfield Town (4-2-3-1): Lossl; Smith, Jorgensen, Schindler, Lowe (Malone 83'); Mooy, Hogg; Quaner, Ince, Van La Parra (Lolley 62'); Mounie (Depoitre 62').

Stoke City (4-2-3-1): Butland; Edwards, Shawcross (Sobhi 32'), Zouma, Wimmer; Cameron, Fletcher (Adam 76'); Shaqiri (Dious 65'), Allen, Choupo-Moting; Crouch.
