FC Utrecht have succumbed to a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven in today's Eredivisie clash at the Stadion Galgenwaard.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Jetro Willems set up Adam Maher for the first goal of the game.
Utrecht then shot themselves in the foot when Mark van der Maarel was sent off after accruing two bookings in quick succession midway through the first half.
The latter misdemeanour also gifted PSV a penalty which Memphis Depay converted to double PSV's lead.
Things were to get worse for the hosts just two minutes later when Jorrit Hendrix scored his side's third goal to all but kill off the game.
Utrecht managed to give themselves a slender hope of getting back into the game when Thomas Oar's pass allowed Ruud Boymans to pull a goal back.
However, PSV turned up the heat in the final stages and added a fourth when Christian Kum put through his own net with nine minutes left.
Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently finished off the rout with a fifth in injury time.
