Half-Time Report: Everton 1-1 Sunderland

The weekend's first FA Cup quarter-final tie is 1-1 between Everton and Sunderland at the break.

The first FA Cup quarter-final of the weekend between Everton and Sunderland is evenly poised as the two sides headed into the break.

After Leon Osman had headed the first chance of the match over for Everton, visiting Sunderland broke the deadlock with their first meaningful effort on goal in the 12th minute.

Jack Colback squared for full-back Phil Bardsley, who took one touch before shooting across Tim Howard's goal and into the bottom corner of the net from 25 yards out.

The home team responded positively and drew themselves level in the 23rd minute. Full-back Leighton Baines crossed from the left for Nikica Jelavic, who headed the ball goalwards. As the Croatian's effort appeared to be floating towards Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Tim Cahill rose highest to guide the ball into the net from close range.

Everton came closest to take the lead into the break, but Royston Drenthe saw his 25-yard effort strike the crossbar.

Sunderland have not won at Goodison Park within 90 minutes since 1996.
