Jack Wilshere: 'England must toughen up'

England midfielder Jack Wilshere outlines how his side can learn from the crafty approach adopted by Chile last Friday.

England midfielder Jack Wilshere believes that the Three Lions can learn from the crafty tactics used by Chile last week, with rotational fouling to break up play an acceptable part of their approach.

Chile claimed a 2-0 victory on Friday courtesy of a brace from Alexis Sanchez, with Wilshere involved in a number of heated exchanges during the home defeat.

The Arsenal schemer thinks that Chile showed Roy Hodgson's side that slowing things down with fouls can help a team regroup, urging the Three Lions to bear that in mind as preparations for the World Cup finals intensify.

He told The Express: "South American teams like to make little fouls and break the game up which is frustrating. But we could learn a bit from them sometimes.

"Maybe if we could pick that up from their character, a little foul here and there like they did, doesn't hurt. Once they do little fouls, it slows play down and you have to stop, build up and it makes it difficult. It was good game-play.

"It was mentally tough against Chile. So this was a good experience for us. At least we know now what to expect from those sorts of teams and we can learn from it."

Hodgson's side are back in action tomorrow night, completing a Wembley double-header by hosting Germany.
