Tony Adams: 'Roy Hodgson should have taken John Terry to World Cup'

Tony Adams believes that England manager Roy Hodgson should have taken John Terry to the World Cup to play alongside Gary Cahill.

Former Arsenal defender Tony Adams has claimed that England manager Roy Hodgson made a mistake by not taking John Terry to the World Cup.

Despite announcing his retirement from international football in 2012, there were calls for the Chelsea captain to be taken to Brazil, and Adams believes that it would have been a good time to reunite Terry with his club teammate Gary Cahill.

"You've got the most experienced and the best centre-half in the country in John Terry sitting at home – which is great for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea," Adams is quoted as saying by The Telegraph. "He's probably rubbing his hands together.

"I don't understand why Terry's not out there. He's 33, he started 34 of Chelsea's 38 games. He's not a man in decline but he's a man who's playing in one of the top clubs in the country. He also plays with Gary Cahill."

England's World Cup campaign begins against Italy on Saturday night.
