The visitors pulled ahead as early as the 18th minute through Andreas Ivanschitz, who turned in Shawn Parker's pass with his right foot from the centre of the box.

It became 2-0 to Mainz three minutes before the half-time interval when Parker latched on to Eugen Polanski's pass to slot home from close range.

Then seven minutes after the break Nikolce Noveski headed home Nicolai Muller's delivery from just yards out to put his side 3-0 up.

However, minutes later Adam Szalai put the ball into his own net to score an own goal for Eintracht.

Two minutes from time Julian Baumgartlinger was sent off for Mainz, but that did not affect the final result.
