Connor Wickham looking to build on solid display in win over Newcastle United

Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham admits that he is eyeing an improvement on his performances for the club following his solid outing against Newcastle United.

Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham has said that he is looking to build on his display after helping his team crush Newcastle United 5-1 in their Premier League clash last week.

Papiss Cisse put the Magpies ahead only for James McArthur to level for the Eagles before Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha put Alan Pardew's men ahead at half time.

Bolasie and McArthur notched further goals to secure an emphatic win, with Wickham playing a part in three of the goals on a successful afternoon for Palace.

He told the club's official website: "It wasn't the ideal start but I think that kick-started us as we knew we had to get ourselves back in the game and we did it in the best way possible. By half time we were in control of the game and dominated to get the three points.

"I am really pleased to be back out playing and getting back to full fitness. I felt a lot better in this one than I did against Sunderland and I take each day as it comes in training, working as hard as I can.

"I would like to start scoring again sooner rather than later but looking back at the end of 90 minutes we have won the game, scored five goals and everyone has a great feeling."

Wickham has yet to find the net for Palace since his £9m move from Sunderland.
