Jim O'Brien stunner sees Coventry City edge out Crewe Alexandra

Jim O'Brien scores late on to help Coventry City beat Crewe Alexandra 3-2 and retain top spot in League One.

Coventry City have maintained their 100% record and remain top of League One after edging a five-goal thriller against Crewe Alexandra.

The game was initially delayed by 15 minutes after supporters were left queueing outside the Ricoh Arena, but the Sky Blues were quickly into their stride, with James Maddison and Adam Armstrong going close to scoring an opener.

City took the lead on 14 minutes when Crewe could only clear a corner to the feet of John Fleck and the midfielder unleashed a fierce strike to beat Ben Garratt.

Alex managed to get back on level terms just after the hour-mark when Jon Guthrie laid the ball off to Bradden Inman, whose curling shot proved too good for Lee Burge.

Armstrong restored Coventry's lead on 51 minutes as the Newcastle United loanee found the bottom corner of the net.

The Railwaymen were back on level terms within two minutes as Marcus Haber tucked home David Fox's cross from close range.

However, City sealed victory in the dying stages as Jim O'Brien's spectacular strike from distance left Garratt helpless and means that the Sky Blues are one of only four teams in the top four English divisions with a perfect record.
